   HIKING NEW ZEALAND
November 1 - 15, 2009
$2020
Mary Coffin, Leader
new zealand sunsetEnjoy camping and hiking on New Zealand’s South island. The group will trek New Zealand's South Island Coast with Wilderness Inquiry cofounder Bill Simpson, offering some the best 'tramping' in the world. Tamp hut-to-hut and take day trips to some of the nation's many national parks. Hike along glacial lakes, through old-growth rain forest, alpine highlands in Nelson Lakes Park. Visit golden beaches, coastal "blowholes" and hidden waterfalls, trekking through Abel Tasman, Kahurangi, Paparoa, and Arthur's Pass National Parks. Journey along coastal and inland lakes that offer stunning views of snowcapped peaks, waterfalls, rivers, and native bird-watching. Loop your way north from Christchurch, our rendezvous point, through coastal towns and the National Parks, staying in tents, huts, and hostels.

Note the fight takes 2 calendar days due to crossing the international dateline.

The trip officially begins in Christchurch, New Zealand, on the morning of the first day of the trip, 11/3/09.  Flights will come in from Aukland generally by 8-11 AM.  If you are flying from the US, you will need to depart US two days earlier, 11/1/09, to accommodate crossing the International Date Line. Catch shuttle bus to downtown Christchurch, meeting in lobby of Stonehurst Hostel on Gloucester.

The last night of the trip is spent in Christchurch so return flights can be made for any time of day on the last day of the trip, 11/29/09. Hotel reservations will not need to be made, everything will be taken care of by WI, unless you are extending your stay.

To make travel arrangements for this trip the outfitter recommends that you consult with their travel agency, Travel One (800-245-1111). They are very familiar with our trips and can help you make the best flight connections at the best prices.

The trip requires a minimum of 8 by June 1, 2009. This trip will either fill quickly or cancel due to lack of deposits.
