ALGONQUIN PARK CANOE TRIP, ONTARIO

Daily Itinerary

Trips may change based on weather and wind conditions.

Day 1, Tuesday, September 08, 2009:
Meet at Portage Store, Canoe Lake at 2 p.m. This is on Highway 60, and is about a 7-hour drive from Rochester, NY. I encourage car pooling and will help arrange that.
We will paddle across Smoke Lake, portage 240 meters into Ragged Lake and camp there.

Day 2, Wednesday, September 09, 2009:
We will paddle on Big Porcupine Lake, Little Coon Lake, Whatnot Lake and camp at McGarvey Lake. The portage lengths today are 590, 370, 900 and 430 meters. We also have the option to leave canoes on Little Coon Lake and hike abut 2 miles to view an area of centuries-old White Pines which once dominated this region.

Day 3, Thursday, September 10, 2009:
Cross McGarvey, Lemon Lake, North Grace Lake to Lake Louisa.  We will camp on this beautiful lake for 2 nights.  Portage lengths are 800, 165 and 1460 meters.

Day 4, Friday, September 11, 2009:
Explore the many islands and bays of Lake Louisa. There are five different canoe routes entering this large lake.

Day 5, Saturday, September 12, 2009:
Leave Lake Louise to Rod & Gun Lake,
Lawrence Lake, Kirkwood Lake, Phipps Lake, Bonnechurre Lake
And camp on Big Porcupine Lake
Portage lengths today are 510, 415, 715, 60, 175 and 200 meters.

Day 6, Sunday, September 13, 2009:
Return through Ragged and then Smoke Lake. Portages are 590 and 240 meters.

There are showers, restrooms, a restaurant and a gift shop at the Portage Store for those choosing to indulge themselves. There are many options available in the area if anyone wants to extend their time in Algonquin Park or the nearby area. Please contact me for more information if interested.
