CRESTED BUTTE 2010 ITINERARY

All elevations and distances are approximate only. Itinerary is subject to change at any time depending on hiking conditions, weather, road conditions to trail heads. Although rare, it is possible to have snow at the higher altitudes in mid-September.

Day 1, Saturday, September 18, 2010 - Rendezvous: 6:00 pm
Rendezvous at Cristiana Guesthaus at 6:00 PM
ORIENTATION MEETING followed by “get acquainted dinner” --not included in price.

Day 2, Sunday, September 19, 2010
Rustlers Gulch. Easy uphill walking. 8 miles round trip. Est.1800 ft. elevation gain. We will hike up a beautiful valley to explore some old silver mines. Moderate Day. Gothic Rd. drop-off and pick-up

Day 3, Monday, September 20, 2010
Mount Baldy 12625 ft. This is a highly rewarding hike with some steep parts and with magnificent views all around. Point to point. Est. length 6-7 miles. Vertical gain of 3100 ft. Descent est. 2000 ft. Moderate to strenuous day. Gothic Rd. drop-off and Washington Gulch pick-up

Day 4, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 
West Maroon Trail. 14 miles round trip. Elevation climbed 2500ft. Elevation reached 12550 ft. We will hike up a long valley in a pass well above timberline. The trail leads through beautiful open meadows high into red sedimentary rocks of the Elk Mountains. Easy uphill walk but long >7 miles each way. Moderate to strenuous day. Gothic Rd. drop-off and pick-up.

Day 5, Wednesday, September 22, 2010
DAY OFF. I will lead a _ day hike on the Dyke Trail from Lake Irwin to Horse Ranch Park, 5-6 miles. Easy Hike. Other choices include horseback riding, biking, rafting, fishing, sightseeing, relaxing and enjoying the village. Lake Irwin drop-off and Keebler Rd. pick-up.

Day 6, Thursday, September 23, 2010
Hike on the mill creek trail in Ohio Pass. The Ohio Pass is one of the most spectacular places in the west for fall colors and the Mill Creek trail leads us up the prettiest valley in the area. The Aspen should be peaking. !0-12 miles moderate. Ohio Rd. drop-off and pick-up.
 
Day 7, Friday, September 24, 2010
Copper Lake and East Maroon Pass. Length 9 .5 miles round trip. Elevation reached 11820ft. Elevation climbed 2300ft. Easy uphill walking but long. Moderate Day. A possible alternative to this day would be a hike up Mount Owens or Ruby Peak a 14000 footer. Our decision will be based on the weather and snow conditions if any at the higher altitudes. Day 8, Saturday, September 25, 2010
Scarpa Ridge to Blue Lake and Oh-Be Joyful/Blue Lake Trail. Elevation Reached 12,272 ft.  Length 11 miles. Point to point. This area is acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful valleys in Colorado. Estimated elevation climbed 1500 ft. I choose this hike for the last day. It will be the highlight of the week. Past participants have told me this was their most beautiful hike ever, Moderate Day. Slate River Rd. drop-off and pick-up.
