Welcome to Algonquin Park. Covering over 3000 square miles, it is the oldest provincial park in Ontario and one of the largest in Canada.

There is only one highway crossing the park, which is about a 4 hour drive north of Toronto. This leaves a large wilderness area accessible only by canoe.

We will quickly leave Highway 60 behind as we head south on Smoke Lake. Our circular route will take us through 14 different lakes and across 16 portages. Expect to encounter moose, beavers and loons. Wolves howling at night are common.

The trip is intended for experienced paddlers. We will be using 42 pound Kevlar canoes that are 16 feet long. The longest portage is 1400 meters. The others are less than 1000 meters with 10 of them under 500.

The leisurely trip will involve 4-6 hours of traveling each day with a rest day on Lake Louisa, one of the larger more spectacular lakes in the park.

Outing cost:  $450 per person
