PLEASE TAKE NOTE: THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

This trip features the best of coastal British Columbia. We start in Vancouver where we will enjoy a fantastic dinner and soak in the ambiance of this lively city. Then we will begin our epic journey. They say that getting there is half the fun, so we’ll take a ferry to Vancouver Island then explore the scenic coastal route to the north end of the island before catching another ferry to Quadra Island. From here we begin the kayaking portion of the trip.

Enjoy three days of paddling and kayak camping in the sheltered waters and natural beauty of this inland archipelago. This is a sea kayaking Vancouver Island tour for novice kayakers and anyone who wants to learn more about west coast British Columbia kayak touring and low-impact Vancouver Island kayak camping.

Kayaking British Columbia Discovery Islands

From our meeting place at Discovery Islands Lodge on Quadra Island we’ll begin the adventure with a scenic voyage aboard our boat MV Chico Mendes.

We’ll spend our first afternoon at Coast Mountain Lodge on Read Island where we practice kayaking skills and enjoy a short kayaking excursion, returning to the rustic comforts of our wilderness homestead lodge for a candlelight dinner. Our kayak rescue lessons are serious but fun, and reward is the wood fired sauna by the creek.

Next morning we’re away on our sea kayaking Vancouver Island adventure! With the splendid and rugged Coast Mountains dominating the skyline, we’ll paddle 2 1/2 days on a roundabout route back to our meeting place.

On this sea kayaking Vancouver Island tour of British Columbia’s outer Discovery Islands, we’ll travel remote shorelines enjoying the company of seals and many kinds of birds. We’ll explore secluded beaches, swim in a warm lake, and at our island campsites we will prepare delicious meals and freshly gathered seafood. Afternoon of the last day we find ourselves back at the Discovery Island Lodge. The next day we will paddle more or take a hike on the local trails. After we’ve had our fill of the coastal experience, it’s off to Strathcona Park for alpine hiking. We’ll bunk at the Strathcona Lodge and head out for day trips in this pristine wilderness. For kayak junkies, there are kayak rentals available at the nearby lake. Finally, we’ll make our way back to Vancouver. It is strongly recommended that you allow a few days before or after the trip to explore Vancouver.
