Walk
in Dordogne in central France along the celebrated Dordogne River
though beautiful rolling scenery. Enjoy walks to the fairytale
chateaux at Castlenaud and the fortified towns of Domme and Le Roque
Gageac. We will stay 7 nights in Sarlat at the charming Relais de
Moussidière, highly praised for its delightful ambience and
excellent cuisine. Sarlat itself is a delightful small town with
cobbled streets and an atmospheric medieval centre. We will have a
chance to visit the world-famous cave paintings at Lascaux.
Each day we will
have a full program of guided walks with 2 options
every day. Choose the option which best suits your interests and
fitness. You can choose easier walking one day and harder the next or
just explore independently or relax around the resort.
All accommodation in en-suite rooms with continental breakfast and
evening meal included. They are also able to cater for vegetarian
diets. Lunches can be bought from local shops.
The easier walks are 3 to 6_ miles generally with gradients on good
tracks and riverside paths and up to 900ft of ascent in a day. These
guided walks include following the Dordogne to the 12th century
fortified town of Domme, the château at Castelnaud or to the
impressive medieval castle at Beynac. Away from the river we can also
walk along the Vézere valley or through shady woodland to the
quaint village of Marquay. You can also spend a full-day visiting the
remarkable cave paintings at Lascaux or the famous pilgrimage town of
Rocamador.
The harder walks are 4_ to 10_ miles on good tracks and paths and up to
1,425ft of ascent in a day. These longer routes include crossing the
limestone hills to Les Eysies and the National Museum of Pre-history,
and walking through rolling countryside from Campagnac Château
back to Sarlat. The riverside path beside the Dordogne is also used on
a delightful walk from Domme and La Roque Gageac, linking two of the
most picturesque settlements on the river. Each week there is an
excursion to Lascaux or Rocamador.
On some days the walks start and finish at the hotel. On other days
we’ll use the hired transport to explore the surrounding area. The cost
of transport to and from the walk is payable locally.
Each week there is a free day when no guided walks are offered. This is
an ideal opportunity to relax around the hotel, walk independently, or
visit local places of interest.
