Transportation in YAI vans. Expect to ski 8 – 10 miles with climbs of 1,000 feet on steep, rugged trails, and off-trail. Return about 4 PM. Overnight Mammoth.

Day 3, Mon, Feb 07:
Meet at 7:00 AM (an earlier start will give us a better chance of seeing wildlife) for Yellowstone Association Institute guided ski into a different area of the Lamar Valley. Exact location and trails to be determined by guides based on conditions and expected wildlife locations. Transportation in YAI vans. Expect to ski 8 – 10 miles with climbs of 1,000 feet on steep, rugged, ungroomed trails, and off-trail. Return about 3 PM. Overnight Mammoth.

Day 4, Tue, Feb 08:
Meet at 8:00 AM for ski exploration of the Mammoth Hot Springs area, led by the trip leader (no guide). Actual trail will depend on conditions and the consensus of the group. There are numerous choices of varying difficulty, distance and elevation change, all on groomed trails, and all offer views. We can ski loops that start and end at the hotel, or we can take the snow coach shuttle to more remote locations (cost not included in trip price.) Expect to ski 8 – 10 miles on groomed trails, with climbs of up to 1,150 feet, depending on trail. Return about 5 PM. Overnight Mammoth.

Day 5, Wed, Feb 09:
Pack up, clear rooms and check out of Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. Meet at 7:30 AM with all gear and luggage to board the snow coach for the ride to Old Faithful Snow Lodge, arriving about noon. Check into our rooms in Snow Lodge. The remainder of the day is on your own to explore the immediate Old Faithful area and the Upper Geyser Basin. Overnight Snow Lodge.

Day 6, Thu, Feb 10:
Meet at 8:00 AM for ski exploration of the Old Faithful area, led by the trip leader (no guide). Actual trail will depend on conditions and the consensus of the group. There are numerous choices of varying difficulty, distance and elevation change, all on groomed or tracked trails, all offer views and pass near thermal features. We can ski loops that start and end at the hotel, or we can take the snow coach shuttle to more remote locations (cost not included in trip price.) Expect to ski 8 – 10 miles on mostly groomed trails, with climbs of 50 to 800 feet, depending on trail. Return about 4 PM. Overnight Snow Lodge.

Day 7, Fri, Feb 11:
Meet at 7:30 AM to board the charter snow coach for the 2 hour ride to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, with a Xanterra guide. We plan to ski the level, groomed Canyon Rim Trail, about 4 miles, which follows the north rim of the spectacular Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River to Inspiration Point. Other loops may be added to increase the distance. As always, the actual trail selected by our guide will depend on conditions. Return about 6 M. Overnight Snow Lodge.

Day 8, Sat, Feb 12:
Pack up, clear rooms and check out of Old Faithful Snow Lodge. Our snow coach to Mammoth doesn’t depart Old Faithful until 1:30 PM, so we have the morning to relax or continue to explore the immediate Old Faithful area. Arrive Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel at 6 PM. Return any rental equipment. Overnight Mammoth.

Day 9, Sun, Feb 13:
Conclusion of trip. Pack up, clear rooms and check out of Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. For those returning to Bozeman Airport for a flight home, the bus departs at 8:30 AM.
